School timings changed Due to Heatwave – Due to anticipated severe heatwaves in Punjab, the government has adjusted school timings from May 18 to May 31, with classes ending earlier to protect students from extreme temperatures. The Meteorological Department’s warning of high-pressure conditions triggering heatwaves emphasizes the importance of precautions such as avoiding direct sunlight and staying hydrated. Punjab’s Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, underscores the collective responsibility in addressing climate change’s impacts.

In response to the forecasted heatwave, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in Islamabad has adjusted school timings starting May 20, 2024, until further notice. Secretary of Education Mohiuddin Wani issued a notification highlighting the need to protect students and teachers from the scorching heat by revising working hours for federal educational institutions. The Meteorological Department’s warning of temperatures ranging from 41 to 42 degrees Celsius underscores the importance of precautionary measures to ensure the well-being of students and staff.

New school timings in Punjab

As per the notification, single-shift institutions will operate from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm from Monday to Thursday, with Friday’s timing being from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Double-shift institutions will function from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm from Monday to Thursday, and conclude at 12:00 pm on Fridays.

The evening shift will begin at 1:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday. However, on Fridays, classes will commence at 2:00 pm and conclude at 6:00 pm.

For Pre-I (Montessori / Prep), the timing will be from 7:30 am to 11:30 am Monday to Friday.

Ex-FG Colleges will operate from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm / 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday, and from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm on Fridays.
