With temperatures reaching a scorching 40 degrees Celsius in Lahore and expected to climb higher, the decision to close schools for over two months aims to protect students from heat-related risks like heatstroke and dehydration. Note : Summer vacations for schools under the Federal Directorate of Education in Islamabad will be from June 10 to July 31, 2024, with classes resuming on August 1, 2024

With the scorching heatwave expected to persist, these vacations will span over two months, mirroring previous years’ patterns. Typically, summer breaks in the province commence in June and extend through August, coinciding with temperatures hitting 40 degrees Celsius or higher. Forecasts suggest temperatures nearing 39°C in May 2024 and exceeding 40°C in June 2024. The official vacation period will commence on June 7, 2024, and conclude on August 19, 2024, as per the education minister’s announcement.
Anticipation mounts for further communication from the Education Department regarding this schedule in the upcoming weeks. Earlier warnings from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) projected maximum temperatures reaching 49.5 degrees Celsius in June and possibly peaking at 48.63 degrees Celsius in August.
