As per the announcement from the Cabinet Division, offices following a five-day workweek will enjoy a three-day break from April 10 to April 12, while those adhering to a six-day workweek will have four public holidays from April 10 to April 13 for Eid-ul-Fitr. The notification, endorsed by Muhammad Aqib Gulzar, the Principal Information Officer at the Press Information Department (PID), confirms the Prime Minister’s approval of these holidays. Eid ul Fitr is anticipated to occur on April 10, as predicted by the Meteorological Office, with the Shawwal moon expected to be visible on April 9.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that the crescent will be observable for over 50 minutes around sunset on April 9, with most regions experiencing clear skies, although some northern areas may encounter clouds. This decision corresponds with the prior circular issued by the Cabinet Division for public and optional holidays in 2024, awaiting the final verdict from the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on the moon sighting process.

However, hospitals, dispensaries, and emergency-related departments will remain operational to serve citizens during the Eid days. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) played a vital role in determining the holiday dates by forecasting the sighting of the Shawwal moon. According to the PMD’s announcement, the crescent is expected to be sighted on April 9, after being born on April 8 at 11:21 pm. This forecast facilitated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s approval of the holiday period from April 10 to 13, ensuring that citizens can celebrate Eid ul Fitr with peace and festivity.
